Week 16 delivered one of the strongest offensive nights of the 2026 season while turning several already-close award races into genuine stretch-run battles. The league combined for 529 individual points and 122 ringers, both new season highs, surpassing marks that had just been set in Week 15. Team scoring also reached a season-high 451 points. Despite all that offense, there were no sweeps and no shutouts - every matchup finished 2-1 - as the league moved within six games of the end of the regular season.
Gomes and Santos Meet Head-to-Head
The night’s marquee individual matchup featured Sean Gomes and Casey Santos, who entered Week 16 battling one another across multiple end-of-season categories. With the races already drawing plenty of attention around the league, the two met directly and delivered a matchup worthy of the stakes, including several tops - cancel ringers, also known as covers - as each answered strong shots from the other.
Gomes finished with a Week 16-high 48 points, 11 ringers and a double, while Santos answered with 43 points and 11 ringers. Ring a Ling took two of three from Whole Lotta Pitches, and Gomes’ five-point advantage increased his season scoring lead to 15 points, 643-628. Gomes now leads the league at 13.40 PPG, with Santos close behind at 13.08.
The Ringer and Doubles Races Tighten
While Gomes gained ground in scoring, Santos made a move of his own in the ringer race. His 11 ringers pushed him to 164 for the season, one ahead of Todd Andrews at 163. Gomes remains within striking distance at 152.
The Doubles Championship race is just as tight. Andrews and Gomes each added a double in Week 16, leaving them tied for the league lead with 10 doubles and a .208 DbPG average. Casey Santos and Devin Santos remain close behind with eight apiece. With only six games left, several of the league’s major individual awards remain very much undecided.
Big Numbers Throughout the League
The record-setting totals were not driven by only one matchup. Braedon Rousseau and Keith DeBurgo each scored 37 points with 10 ringers, with DeBurgo adding another double to his strong late-season run. Devin Santos scored 35, while Willie Coats, Ed MacNeil, Matt Lynch and substitute Wayne Gomes each scored 34.
DeBurgo also continues to strengthen his position in the B-player race and now leads the group at 10.04 PPG. His recent surge has become one of the more interesting developments of the second half.
Wayne Gomes Finishes His Three-Week Run
Week 16 marked the third and final week of Wayne Gomes’ stint substituting for Tom Wolfe. Gomes closed the stretch with 34 points and eight ringers for Steel the Point. After being selected as Wolfe’s A-player replacement to provide Larry Kitchen with a consistent partner during Wolfe’s absence, Gomes gave Steel the Point a productive veteran presence across the three-week stretch.
Standings Set Up a Dramatic Finish
Not Fast, Just Furious remains the overall league leader at 32-16 despite dropping two of three to Dark Horse. Keep Their Heads Ringin’ improved to 31-17 and sits only one game back overall while holding a two-game Hercules lead over Whole Lotta Pitches at 29-19. Precious Cargo improved to 26-22 after taking two of three from Steel the Point.
